929事件：夏天别走

not sure it is because of her immense popularity or the enthusiasm of her fans (probably both?), it felt almost redundant to write our own take especially after reading this review, which documented the entire near 3 hours concert in quite vivid details. so we decided to just point out some of the highlights which are memorable:

1) was surprised that 躺在你的衣柜 made an early appearance during the 1st segement of mostly accoustic arrangements as its more befitting to rock that song out. but nevertheless, this refreshing version features an accordian backing that exudes a tango-like feel (as pointed out by the xin.sg contributor)

2) as heard and witnessed on the 花的姿态 concert boxset, Cheer fans in Taiwan are very passionate and over-the-top. so we werent expecting much from the fans here as we are pretty well known for being slightly sedated. turned out we are very much wrong on this matter. a Cheer fan is a Cheer fan after all. Sentimental Kills set the tone for the 2nd half of the concert but its on the second appearance of 躺在你的衣柜, in its full-on rocking mode, that gets the crowd going. as the first chord of the song started, nearly everyone leapt off their seats - some clamouring to stand on the chairs while others wave their lightsticks fervently. and from then onwards, its all system go. its a sight to behold i tell you. oh and kudos to the guy with that loud and powerful voice - he shouted "陈绮贞 我爱你!" several times during the concert.

3) she also created a near-riot when she went round the venue during the rendition of 女明星, decked out rather glamourously in a magician hat. the people at the back were rushing to the front section to try to catch a glimpse while those in the first section were busy snapping away. flashes from the cameras created something of an eplipetic lightning storm - much like paparazzi catching a superstar on film. in more ways than one, she is already a star of her own.

4) when she took out her motorcycle helmet on stage, we knew that she is going to sing 旅行的意義. but apparently, it involves a promise - a pact that was made during an interview with a DJ in Taiwan. if everyone who goes to a Cheer concert wears a helmet during 旅行的意義, she will deck out in full gear of her own to perform. its easy in Taiwan as motorcycles are a prevalent mode of transport unlike here. so she decided that as long as one person brings and wears the helmet, she would too. and there are certainly more than one fan who will grant her wish. infact there are quite a number, with an alarmingly different types of helmet, including a construction hardhat. im sure Cheer felt the warmth cos she looks pretty touched.

5) 5! - count them - 5! encores - the most ever for a Cheer concert, according to the forums. the entire venue was chanting and stomping their feet, encore after encore. even the lighting crew helped by flashing the stage lights (after the 3rd encore) along with the deafening request. and Cheer obliged all - even for an unexpected 5th. the venue lights were all up and at least half of the crowd has left. and all of a sudden, she came back out with the whole band to do a final number, 微凉的你. the remaining of us rushed out to the front to stand on the chairs. after that, she left us with the parting words that she has shown an unreserved side of hers that night.

and so did we, Cheer. so did we.

this was posted by a certain stella as found on the cheerego message board. (no 10 is missing - we have no idea whether its a typo or otherwise - even though the order seems accurate enough)

covered her entire discography quite comprehensively and then more with the inclusion of new and unrecorded tracks as well as covers of stuff she wrote for other artistes. more than satisfying already though we wished she had sung 太多 (aptly named?) and 花的姿态. while most encores are more or less pre-planned, the last 2-3 are rather spontaeneous, especially the last one when all the house fluorescent lights came up and cleaners started streaming in but a substantial group of diehard fans (especially those "imported" from taiwan) still persisting to not let the night end. even the above reviewer left before the last encore because there were indeed zero indication of another one, was really suprised that she finally relented and do another song along with her band. the possibility of a 6th were pretty much dashed by the hostile expo people who dispersed the group of diehard fans and quite literally chased them out of the venue. so it sort of ended on a not exactly harmonious note but nonetheless, quite simply a rocking evening unlike any other.
